How can cleaning supplies affect our health?
Many cleaning products can irritate the eyes or throat, cause headaches and other health problems, including cancer. Some products release dangerous chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Other harmful ingredients include ammonia and bleach. Even natural fragrances such as citrus can react to produce dangerous pollutants indoors. VOCs and other toxic chemicals released when using cleaning supplies contribute to chronic respiratory problems, allergic reactions and hormonal problems.
On the other side…do you know how many toxins you put on your skin? Stop for a moment and think about how many personal care or cosmetic products you use in a day. Maybe two, five, 10, 15? According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the average person uses approximately 10 to 15 personal care products with a total of 126 ingredients each and every day (and this number doesn't include reapplication of products). The number of products used daily is not the issue though. The ingredients in these products is the concerning part.
Fortunately, we have safer, less expensive, non-toxic options to use in our homes and ourselves top to bottom without compromising our health. The OnGuard line of cleaning products is super effective and last a while or you can make your own products as well using common ingredients like baking soda and white vinegar, plus your essential oils for added cleansing properties. On the personal care products department, we are cover too! We can find everything we need in our doTERRA shop to help us switch in a super easy, convenient way.
